Peninsula Outpatient Centers - Knox/Lighthouse (formerly Peninsula Lighthouse)

Peninsula Lighthouse is a division of:
Parkwest Medical Center

The Intensive Outpatient Program at Peninsula Lighthouse is a four-to-five-day per-week program that provides a more concentrated level of care than traditional outpatient sessions.

The length of treatment is usually six to eight weeks, however, each person’s treatment is based on individual progress toward treatment goals. Each treatment day is three to four hours in duration and provides group therapy and educational sessions. Physician sessions are scheduled upon admission and as deemed necessary by the treatment team.

Family
Family participation is essential to the success of treatment. Families are encouraged to maintain contact with a member of the treatment team throughout treatment for the purposes of supporting goals and making decisions.

School
Peninsula Lighthouse is not a certified school, so treatment hours do not count as school hours for our child and adolescent patients. However, our professional staff coordinates with local schools to ensure that education is continued throughout treatment.

Cost
Peninsula Lighthouse accepts most commercial insurance plans, Medicare, TennCare and private pay. Staff work with each patient prior to beginning treatment to determine whether treatment will be covered.

Referrals
The Lighthouse accepts referrals from all sources. To ensure a patient receives the best and most appropriate care, we also complete our own specific, face-to-face psychosocial assessment prior to admission. Referring physicians are encouraged to provide any clinical documentation that may assist us with this initial evaluation session.

About Peninsula Lighthouse
Peninsula Lighthouse serves individuals age eight through geriatric who need help with emotional health problems and substance abuse issues that impair their daily functioning. These may include: depression or mood disorders, drug and/or alcohol abuse, anxiety disorders, anger management, oppositional/defiant behaviors, ADHD, relationship problems, grief and loss, and/or self-endangering or self-injurious behavior.

At Peninsula Lighthouse, we strive to treat the whole person, and our staff is specifically trained to recognize and treat co-occurring illnesses. Our unique dual-diagnosis approach integrates best practices from research and clinical work in motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral interventions, psychodynamic principles, 12-step recovery programs and relapse prevention.

Individuals who need intense treatment in a structured environment, but who do not require continuous care, are perfect candidates for Peninsula Lighthouse. Those who have not responded to standard outpatient therapy, or who are transitioning from an inpatient setting frequently do well in Lighthouse programs.

Throughout treatment at the Lighthouse, patients participate in an age-specific therapeutic group that fosters accountability to work on key issues. Patients are responsible to the group. In turn, the group is responsible for facilitating a positive and supportive environment for change. Lighthouse patients partner with an interdisciplinary team which provides concurrent reassessment to ensure the patient receives maximum benefit from treatment.

Our treatment groups are separated by age as follows: children 8-10; adolescents 11-13; teens 14-17; and adults 18 years and older. Individual therapy is provided on a limited and as-needed basis.
